Achterstand UWV kost bijna miljard euro

Er komt vooralsnog weinig terecht van het wegwerken van de achterstanden van het UWV op het gebied van herkeuringen. Het is nog maar de vraag of het aantal verzekeringsartsen in opleiding voldoende is om alle noodzakelijke herkeuringen uit te voeren, zegt VVD-Kamerlid Anoushka Schut-Welkzijn tegen BNR.

De herkeuringsachterstand bij het UWV kost werkgevers jaarlijks 870 miljoen euro.150.000 tijdelijk arbeidsongeschikten hadden jaren geleden al herkeurd moeten worden door het UWV, meldt risico-adviseur en verzekeringsmakelaar Aon. Het ministerie van Sociale Zaken heeft eerder onderzoek laten doen waaruit blijkt dat na een herkeuring 58 procent van de arbeidsongeschikten weer (deels) aan de slag kunnen. Uiteindelijk is het een belang van zowel werkgever als werknemer, zegt Daniel Rijnbeek, managing consultant bij Aon. ‘Want werken is gezond.’

Afspraken met Asscher

Arbeidsongeschikten die op advies van de verzekeringsarts na twee jaar weer terug konden komen op de arbeidsmarkt zijn in feite jarenlang aan hun lot overgelaten, zegt Schut-Welkzijn. ‘Eindelijk hebben we afgelopen jaar afspraken gemaakt met de minister om dat beleid van het UWV te veranderen. De VVD heeft toen gezorgd voor 10 miljoen euro extra. De achterstanden zouden worden ingelopen, maar nu blijkt dat daar heel weinig van terechtkomt.’

Pensionerende verzekeringsartsen

Het probleem zit hem vooral in het feit dat het UWV te weinig verzekeringsartsen heeft. En hoewel  er op dit moment 180 verzekeringsartsen in opleiding zijn – op een totaal van achthonderd – biedt dat volgens Schut-Welkzijn onvoldoende soelaas voor de vervanging van pensionerende verzekeringsartsen te vervangen. ‘Er moet echt een tandje bij, want we willen niet dat mensen thuis komen te zitten als ze eigenlijk wel kúnnen werken
