Schut-Welkzijn vindt dat de lasten eerlijker moeten worden verdeeld. ‘Anders staan er straks onnodig mensen aan de kant die wel willen werken maar waarvoor werkgevers geen risico willen dragen.’
Ze noemt als voorbeeld een werkgever die vijf mensen in dienst heeft, waarvan er een uitvalt door een blessure of ziekte. De werkgever moet niet alleen het loon doorbetalen, ‘maar ook de re-integratie faciliteren en vervanging verzorgen, wat leidt tot verdubbeling van de premie voor die ene functie’.

De VVD’er roept daarom minister Lodewijk Asscher (VVD, Sociale Zaken) op om met de VVD te blijven nadenken over een manier om de lasten voor werkgevers te verlichten.
Samen met Finland, Polen en Slovenië heeft Nederland het hoogste ziekteverzuimpercentage van de Europese Unie, schrijft Schut-Welkzijn. Dat komt volgens haar doordat er weinig prikkels zijn ingebouwd om weer te gaan werken.
‘Mensen voelen het hier niet in hun portemonnee als ze langer ziek thuisblijven dan nodig.’
